Renowned Cameroonian musician and CEO of Alpha Beta Records, Salatiel, has made new revelations on how he first encountered his co-singers like Mr Leo and Blaise B, with whom he has released several songs making waves in the Cameroonian show biz landscape.
Salatiel Livenja Bessong, known on stage as Salatiel, said he first encountered both artists while he was part of the University of Buea Choir.
Then, his older brother was a lecturer in the University and was also in charge of the UB choir. Knowing Salatiel to be a good singer, he used to bring in Salatiel to teach students of the choir.
Salatiel explained that, at that time, Mr Leo and Blaise B also came into the choir, because they were attracted to female choristers who, at the time, outnumbered the males by 2/10.
He went ahead to explain that they didn’t know any of the songs or anything and, when he, Salatiel, asked what musical part they could sing, they would say “we are singing bass”.
After rigorous practice and rehearsals, Salatiel said he realised that Leo had a special voice and, from there, he began working with him. This experience, he said, transformed Mr Leo from a man who just came into the choir to chase girls into someone who became very passionate about music.
