CREAD Cameroon Intensifies Fight Against GBV

by Atlantic Chronicles

The Centre for Community Regeneration and Development, CCREAD-Cameroon, has intensified the fight against Gender-based Violence, GBV, in Kupe-Muanenguba Division of Cameroon.

This is through its Human rights and women empowerment programme. In collaboration with AmplifyChange, the organisation, has educated and engaged over 2,450 women, youths and men across 30 communities.

The project focuses on educating communities on the dangers of GBV, the need to promote sexual and reproductive health rights of women and girls, family planning and the importance of open dialogue to restore peace in homes.

CCREAD-Cameroon has been organising meetings and training seminars with selected traditional leaders, women’s groups and CSOs to campaign against all forms of GBV.

Beneficiaries of CREAD-Cameroon and AmplifyChange project have expressed gratitude to the two organisations for assisting them. Some women who benefited from the project expressed satisfaction to the organisation for bringing GBV and SRHRs education and counseling services to their doorsteps.

They also praised the aforementioned organisations for creating permanent community led-mechanisms for the continuation of GBV campaigns, advocacy and counseling within the communities.

On the project activities, CCREAD-Cameroon’s Outreach Coordinator, Georgiana Efande, praised CREAD determination in trying to foster the rights of women, eliminate all forms of discriminatory practices, despite the difficult working environment.

In July this year, CREAD organised football tournaments for both male and female and used the tournaments to educate over 4000 community members on GBV and SRHRs. The over 4000 were also provided with free contraceptives.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of CREAD-Cameroon, Hilary Ewang Ngide, during a midterm evaluation meeting of the project organised in Bangem, applauded the support from the communities for the smooth running of activities, their determination to carry out follow-up interventions and the generosity of AmplifyChange, the main financial partner of the project.

He reiterated the need for the local authorities to remain at the centre of the interventions because the communities are the ultimate judges of the project’s quality.

CCREAD-Cameroon is an active nonprofit humanitarian organisation with a UN Status. It went operational in Cameroon in 2006, and has maintained a strong presence in local communities.

Next time I read a blog, I hope that it doesn’t disappoint me just as much as this one. I mean, Yes, it was my choice to read through, however I genuinely believed you’d have something interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of complaining about something you could fix if you weren’t too busy searching for attention.
