After Disgraceful Outing, Coach Thomas Libih Exits U-17 Lion’s Den

by Atlantic Chronicles

(Cameroon) After a disgraceful outing with the 2019 U-17 Champions of Africa at the World jamboree in Brazil, the head trainer of the baby Lions, Thomas Libih has been shown the exit door.

His dismissal came barely hours after he landed in the country with his foot soldiers that were flushed out of the tournament at the group phase, with just a single goal scored, and six conceded. The dismal performance left the squad grasping for breath at the bottom of the group.

Despite Manfred Ekoi’s domineering presence at goalpost, the fine shot-stopper was forced to pick the ball from his net, several times due to the floppy mistakes made by his defensive compartment. Such mistakes left teams like Spain, Argentina and Tajikistan smiling on every match day.

Some fans have however said that another disappointing aspect of the team’s performance could be blamed on the absence of some of the players who took part during the African expedition.  Others attribute the team’s poor performance to the presidential decree that limits the selection only to home-based players.

All these loopholes, many say, led to the poor performance of the squad.

Cameroon has been absent from this level of the championship for 16years and fans were expecting to see the cub Lions progress to at least the second phase of the competition.
