In a bid to curb the prevalence of depression in Cameroon, Ngwane Hansel has launched an audiobook titled “Overcoming Depression”.
Launched under LouChat, the piece seeks to provide solutions to one of the biggest mental problems affecting Cameroonian youths and also a significant segment of the population. Ngwane Hansel’s audiobook examines depression from a Cameroonian perspective.
The released audio-book consists of 8 different chapters. The first chapter of the audio-book is dedicated to detailed explanations, and an insight on ‘Understanding Depression’.
The audio-book has been released and made available for all to download and listen for free. The initiative to provide the self-help package to all Cameroonians was inspired by the need to address the growing health concern, by tackling the rising social phenomenon of growing depression.
Depression in Cameroon is gradually becoming a call for concern, mainly because more people are beginning to understand its awful effects. Over 30% of the population suffers from depression in Cameroon, and with young people emerging as the hardest hit. These youths undergo mental and physical pain on a daily basis, but are forced to wear smiles in order to mask the hard reality concealed in their minds and bodies. Many have resorted to the consumption of hard drugs, which itself, is breeding another health concern, given its adverse effects and negative impact on the younger generation and the future of the country.
Chapter one of the book, gives the listener an insight on the causes of depression per the Cameroonian context, as well as its manifestations.
