The 170th Award To Ntumfor

Rev Pastor Jones Ayuk Ebot, made the above declarations about Ntumfor Barrister Nico Hall, during a mediation at a ceremony in Douala recently. The ceremony was organized to hand over an award given by the Presbyterian Theological Seminary, PTS Kumba, to Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle, on the occasion of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the institution. The award was a certificate of recognition for Ntumfor Halle’s enormous contribution over the years to the growth of the institution.  Interestingly enough, this was the 170thawards that Ntumfor Halle was receiving.

The message of the award read:  “Presbyterian Theological Seminary Kumba. CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION.  Barrister Ntumfor Nico Halle.  In recognition for your Valuable and immeasurable contributions towards the development and sustenance of The Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Kumba, in commendable ways during the past years. Your outstanding Services, Tireless Efforts and Constant Supports in the training of Theologians and forming of Pastors for the Church, have been enormous and worth appreciating.  ‘You should not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time you will reap a harvest, if you do not give up’. (Gal. 6:9). Awarded on this 4th day of June in this year of our Lord, 2023 during the 70th anniversary celebration of the PTS. (Sign)  Rt Rev.  Fonki Samuel Forba. Chairman, PTS Administrative Council”.

Why Halle Could Not Be In Kumba For The Award

It happened that the Douala based Ntumfor Halle who is also a member of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism, had to go on a mission to Ebolowa in the South Region, and so could not travel to Kumba for the PTS anniversary celebration on June 4. He thus asked the Dean of PTS Kumba , Rev Prof Mbengu David Nyiawung, to kindly receive the award on his behalf. The two men agreed that upon Ntumfor Halle’s return from Ebolowa, a date would be fixed for Rev Prof Mbengu to travel to Douala to handover the award he received on his behalf from the hands of the Moderator of PCC, Rt Rev. Fonki Samuel Forba, who doubles as the Chairman of the Administrative Council of the PTS Kumba

Rev Prof Mbengu at the appropriate time then travelled to Douala accompanied by the Vice Dean of PTS Kumba, Rev Dr Felix Kang Esoh, to hand over the award. The ceremony to handover the award, which was chaired by Mr Fongang Moses, was attended by many pastors as well as friends of Ntumfor Halle, precisely those of the PCC.

Context Of The Award

Meanwhile in a speech before handing over the award to Ntumfor Halle, the Dean of PTS Kumba, Rev Prof Mbengu David Njiawung, explained that it was decided that on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of PTS Kumba, Certificates of Recognition should be given to some personalities that have over the years made significant contributions to the growth of the institution. That is, personalities that have impacted the institution in a significant way. A committee was set up to look around the county and meticulously select a few personalities that met up with the criteria set for the award.  The Dean made it clear that he was not a member of the committee.

Why The Award To Ntumfor Halle.

Rev. Pro Mbengu said as part of the process, the committee that was charged with the selection of personalities for the award, had to explain to the administration of PTS Kumba why each of the personalities they had designated for the award, was selected. He disclosed that as for Ntumfor Halle, the committee enumerated many impressive things that he has over the years done that have contributed immensely to the growth of the institution. He said for example that the committee pointed out that Ntumfor Halle has over the years been promoting theological education by talking to the pastors who are teachers of PTS, talking to the students, and touching the lives of pastors and students with his generosity, giving prizes to students that excel in their studies or training. He also recalled that Ntumfor Halle used to travel from Douala to Kumba to give lectures at PTS for free.

The Dean of PTS asserted that Ntumfor Halle is a true friend of the institution. He for example recalled that when Ntumfor was the National President of the Cameroon Men Fellowship, CMF, of the PCC, he insisted that CMF should take care of PTS, stressing that without the institution there will be no PCC.

Love For Humanity / Big Defender Of Women’s Rights

Meanwhile besides pastors, some of the friends of Ntumfor Halle who attended the ceremony, also took the floor to say one or words about him. The Chairman of the ceremony, Fongang Moses, disclosed that he and Ntumfor have been friends since childhood. He said they used to call themselves bulldozers because they worked so hard and never wanted to get things the easy way.  Fongang also happily noted that Ntumfor Halle is very committed to serving God.

Chief Ada Keshi asserted that it is the heart of a man that makes a man.  He said Ntumfor Halle loves humanity and is somebody who is forgiving. She said the flow of awards to Ntumfor Halle is in recognition of the good work he has over the years been doing for humanity, for the society.  “Don’t stop what you are doing. Keep moving.  Continue going up in the name of Jesus”, Chief Ada Keshi told Ntumfor Halle.

Mrs Tantoh Justine who besides  being an Elder in Church is also the President of an organ of the  Ndong Awing Cultural and Development Association, NACDA, stated that Ntumfor Halle is not only an icon in Church, but also in the community.  She said it was when Ntumfor Halle was the National President of NACDA, that both the Awing Village an NACDA became known nationwide.  She also hailed Ntumfor for being a strong defender of the rights of women.  Some other friends of Ntumfor Halle like Chief Mantohbang Martin and Dr George Assam also took the floor to shower praises on the man that they have known for a longtime.

Award dedicated To Pastors, Priests, To Fight Hate Speech

In a brief speech at the occasion, Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle said the Lord uses broken vessels to do a few things. He said nobody is perfect, but that what each and every one should do in life is to strive to move towards excellence. Talking about the importance of humility, Ntumfor said one of the most precious human values is humility. He said his late father who was a Man – of – God, told him to strive to nurture the spirit of humility, respect for others, assiduity, hard work, and the fear of the Lord.

Meanwhile Ntumfor Halle dedicated the award from the Presbyterian Theological Seminary that was handed over to him on that blesse day, to Pastors of the PCC in particular, and pastors and priests across the country in general. He urged the pastors and priests to use the award he has desiccated to them, to fight against hate speech, xenophobia, embezzlement, electoral malpractices at all levels, corruption and other ills.
