Cameroon’s Telecommunications Regulatory Board, TRB has fined CAMTEL, Orange Cameroun, MTN Cameroun and Viettel Cameroun a total sum of FCFA Six Billion, for failing to render quality services to Cameroonians.
A communique announcing the fining the companies was released by TRB on May 25, 2023.
The fines to the telecommunications companies in Cameroon is coming after a protest by Cameroonians who are constantly decrying the poor nature of services offered them by the telephone network companies. Cameroonians have over time been complaining about poor services offered them by the companies.
Users have continuously complained that the companies that charge exorbitant rates keep offering very poor services with none of the networks seeking to upgrade or engage in serious competition to woo customers again as they are in a base rate of operations where they have become too comfortable and in uniformity when it comes to standards.
As such, Cameroonians have been caught in the middle helplessly as there is seemingly no better operator in the sector to run to. A few of the networks too rarely advertise again as competition like the services offered by them, has dropped drastically.
