Bigwigs of the Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement, CPDM, in the Southwest Region, are galvanizing efforts towards winning the upcoming elections.
Meeting on March 16, in Buea, during the CPDM Central Committee regional seminar chaired by Peter Mafany Musonge, the bigwigs enjoined the party’s delegates and officials in the Region to engage in groundwork that will ensure a smooth win for the party in upcoming Regional, Municipal and Legislative elections.
Talking to the press on the reason behind their regional conclave, Musonge said President Biya’s announcement that there will be elections in 2019 made them intensify their efforts to win, by training its stakeholders.
“We have to get ready for those elections. That is why we are here today, to fire them up, so that they know that they have to continue to work,” Musonge said.
Making allusion to the Presidential election of last October, the former PM and Southwest CPDM regional leader said he and his team have come to make sure that their people continue to work, and not relapse because of the success recorded during the Presidential election of 2018.
Musonge enjoined the CPDM delegates to organise seminars in their sections, subsections branches and cells to teach and spread the agenda of the party; “so that the strength of our party should be generated from the base to the top”.
Call For Peace
He also charged the delegates to work and pray for peace to return to the Anglophone Regions of the country.
“As we leave this seminar ground, let us pray for peace to return to the Northwest and Southwest Regions of our country. Let us pray for the strong call of the Head of State for the young people in the bushes to lay down their arms and join us build our fatherland together,” he said.
Professor Elvis Ngole Ngole, in his discourse during the seminar, called on the Southwest CPDM delegates to reawaken the boldness they used during the Presidential election, so that when the elections come, the party should again, win with a landslide victory.
He reminded the party delegates that as they braved bullets during the last two elections, Presidential and Senatorial, they should prepare and be ready to brave the odds when the Regional, Municipal and Legislative elections are called.
Senator Mbella Moki, reacting after the CPDM seminar, said the encounter was a much cherished one with the party’s leadership. He said it will be good, if the party rallies behind the newly appointed PM, Chief Dr. Dion Ngute, so that they can reach out with a message of appeasement, comfort, forgiveness and, “a message that will address the concerns of our people to ensure that they see with us, reason with us and walk with us.” Asked about the peripheral nature of the meeting, and how the message will get to the level of all in the communities, Senator Mbella said: “I reside in Buea, I reside in my village, I share in the plight of my people and in their joy. This is the kind of militancy that we expect from the leadership of the CPDM in the Southwest Region, so that we can reconcile ourselves and address the prevailing problems in the Southwest Region; problems which have to do with the displacement of our people, and problems which have to do with what people in our rural communities are facing. All of these, I can tell you, are not problems we cannot address. If we fail in this duty, posterity will blame us.”
