Information from Nkambe indicates that some persons kidnapped alongside the Bamenda II Divisional Officer, have been freed.

However, we are equally learning that some might have been killed, though no official source has authenticated it. It is alleged that the DO’s bodyguard, as well as his driver, have been killed.

The news about the release of some of the hostages has been reportedly confirmed by the Senior Divisional Officer for Donga Matung, according to authorities in Bamenda, the Chief town of the Northwest region.

However, it is a developing story and AC can not confirm when they were released and how.

The concerned persons were taken into captivity on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, by suspected Amba fighters along the Ndu-Nkambe stretch. They were on their way to Nkambe for the installation of the SDO of Donga Matung Division.

Their release comes days after the DO of Bamenda II, Nicolas Nkongho regained his freedom. He said he outsmarted his captors and escaped at night, undergoing a ten-hour foot journey. But the Governor of the region in his outing claimed that the SDO was rescued by security operatives.

The governor of the Northwest Region Adolf Lele l’Afrique had earlier said rescue operations were underway to free the remaining persons.

We will continue to bring these developments as the news unfolds.
