Hon. Joseph Wirba, Member of Parliament for Jakiri Special Constituency, has in a talk with some Anglophone Cameroonians in the United Kingdom, during the launch of his book,” Wirba Force” called on leaders of Anglophone struggle to keep aside personal skirmishes and unite with a common people-centred goal, or face the wrath of the dying people back home.

Talking about the fragmentation of leadership and settling of scores by the so-called leaders of the struggle, Hon. Wirba reminded them that the struggle has always been about the people, and not about self-interest to the detriment of a dying people.
“The last item I came here to do, is to warn Southern Cameroonian Diaspora. After my warning to my party, to La République du Cameroun, my last warning is to the Southern Cameroon Diaspora. Take it or leave it, if you do not come together immediately…discuss and get things right, wait for consequences. You have no choice but to come together. That is why I am here. I want us across the world to make that effort to come together” Wirba said, stating that at a unity table, everyone’s opinion should be sought and the best way forward adopted.
Wirba bemoaned the attitudes of some Diaspora leaders, whom he said are fighting over money and positions, while those they should be fighting for are dying back home in the English speaking regions of Cameroon. He pointed out that the love for money and positions is not the way of life for Southern Cameroonians, furthering that some leaders in their self-seeking attitude have rather taken up the “habits of the oppressor”
Still addressing the leaders in the Diaspora, he lambasted them for taking every issue to “the market square” and failing to protect one another. Speaking about his own values, the member of parliament said from time to time, people have come up to ask him what his own opinion is, but he has chosen not to talk because the various leaders need to come together and discuss on a way forward and not spill every detail out to whoever wants to listen.
He said his own contributions to the struggle will be revealed at the meeting of the leaders, which he said should be convened immediately because people are dying due to lack of focused and people-centred leadership.
Speaking about his outings in parliament, Hon. Wirba said he had visited over eight Ministries to discuss on the issues relating to the crisis, and the ministers concerned do not believe that Anglophones have problem. “These people do not believe that we have problems. The do not believe that we are humans” he said, criticising the Minister of Justice for saying and implying that Anglophones came to joint Anglophones and that as such, have to take whatever the system reserves for them without questioning.
He criticised some Anglophones whom he described as Elevated Slaves, who are contented with their “elevated slave” status and feel that Southern Cameroonians should not ask for what they deserve. He said he was aware that there are some spies, whom he still referred to as elevated slaves, who have come to the book launch to spy and report back to their masters.
Criticising the Military option used by the Cameroon government to clamp down on the disgruntled people, Wirba said “Nothing seems to work in the Country. All they know is soldiers and guns…”
On his outing in parliament, he said: “If we had a parliament, what I said wouldn’t have been news, because people should have been saying it a long time ago.”
In a sarcastic tone made in allusion to Cameroon, the MP said “If you steal a goat or a cow, and people are running behind you in the whole town, and then you steal a State, what should they do?” he asked as those in the hall laughed.
To the leaders of the struggle, he urged that “in whatever we do, we should always give peace a chance”. He bemoaned the attitude of making the struggle about certain individuals, warning that when such a trend takes course, the whole thing will collapse and those who have lost their all in the fight will turn on those who lead them into failure and made things worst instead of bettering them.

Also present at Wirba’s book launch, was Professor Carlson Anyangwe who praised the idea of writing a book, saying that writing and reading, was a part of life in West Cameroon, but started to dwindle and die after reunification as the successive regimes in Cameroon introduced censorship and killed vibrant newspapers and publishing houses followed by banning of some books and leaving people with only things that could not make for a good read.
He expressed hope saying that the reawakening has rekindled the reading and writing cultures which have been lost due to repressive nature of the regimes that have ruled Cameroon. He chastised what he referred to as the falsification of history and historical facts to suit political schemes rather than document real history.
