The Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light, HWPL, has sponsored an international conference organised by the Permanent Delegation of Mali to UNESCO, aimed at promoting peace education for sustainable development goals, SDGs.
The conference, organised under the theme: “Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Through Education,” took place at the UNESCO World Heritage Centre on February 14.
Over 300 participants, including delegations of the UNESCO from 20 countries and 24 international NGOs who were present at the event, discussed the role of peace education and civil society to achieve the SDGs.

Speaking on behalf of the event’s main organiser, the permanent delegation of Mali for the UNESCO, H.E Oumar Keita said: “Through this conference, we hope to find a better way to achieve SDGs through education by 2030.”
He added: “Education is more than ever an absolute necessity in a world of confrontation. When the UNESCO was created, it was precisely through education that it envisaged building a world of peace.”
The conference featured announcements of achievements by both the Malian education programme and curriculums proposed by HWPL.
As an international non-governmental organisation, HPWL has carried out peace education in 30 countries.
The NGO is affiliated with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, UN ECOSOC, through which it has introduced peace education programmes in over 220 educational institutions and built partnerships with government ministries, including the Philippines, Guatemala, Sri Lanka, Iraq and Cambodia.
In the context of achieving the UN SDGs, the Mali delegations of UNESCO said they seek to further develop this peace education and prepare professional skills and resources, with the participation and assistance of education experts and representatives of civil society, including HWPL.
The HWPL has three unique approaches to peace-building: the establishment of international law for peace to secure peace as a global norm; inter-religious dialogue to overcome ethnic and religious conflicts; and peace education that nurtures human character.
