Public Works Department (PWD) Kumba alias ‘Meme Works’, and the Academicians of Njalla Quan Sports Academy (NQSA), both stand top after two days of play at the mini-interpools.

The playoffs are to get representatives of the Southwest Region at the National playoffs.

It was an intense second day of play in the Southwest Regional mini-interpools hosted by the Molyko Omnisports stadium Buea, the City of Excellence. The first encounter of the day featured the Public Works Department of Kumba Alias “Meme Works” who exchanged football Lessons with the big money spending Limbe Football Club Association (LIFCA). This encounter ended in favour of President/Coach Maxwell Bisong and his boys from Kumba. The lone goal of this encounter came in the eight-minute courtesy of an Ebile Penalty.

“We are happy with this result and think we can represent the region at the nationals. I want to state here that we started training for this competition just two weeks ago.” Happy Moses Itua of PWD Kumba told Atlantic Chronicles after the encounter.

Disappointed Ofon Yannick, player of LIFCA, in an interview with Atlantic Chronicles, moments after the game, said, “We are sad to have lost such an encounter and we only hope for a score in the second match that will favour us in the end.”

The second game sparked fireworks with Continental FA, lone losers of the Day One encounters in Limbe, facing an NQSA side of Coach Edwin Teteh, that played a 1-1 tie with PWD Kumba.

Continental FA alias the Gra-Gra boys drew first blood through defender Wallace Ofambi in the 29th minute just to be cancelled by two goals through substitute Jean Armel in the 75th minute, and Noel Soh Tata through a penalty spot at minute 82, to ensure all three points for the Limbe three side boys.

Asked how he turned the tide, Coach Teteh told the press, “I was observant and noticed we were lacking up-front so I had to gamble, took off two of my defenders and that left me with three at the back, five midfielders, and two strikers. From that moment we took over the game and finally we return victorious, thanks be to God Almighty.”

As things stand, PWD Kumba occupies position number one, but share equal points with academicians from Limbe, NQSA, as they bag 4points each, Limbe Football Club Association follow with 3points and Continental FA tail the log with 0point.

The final Match Day will be hosted by the town of friendship. The Limbe Centenary Stadium shall welcome the football-loving public this Saturday, July 20 from 1 pm with NQSA to battle it with city rivals LIFCA, while Continental FA will have to save their faces against PWD Kumba in the second game from 3 pm.
