Cameroon Community Media Network Braces To Celebrate Press Freedom Day

The Cameroon Community Media Network, CCMN, is putting in place, last-minute touches to celebrate World Press Freedom Day, under the theme, “Media For Democracy Journalism, and Elections In Time Of Disinformation”

CCMN issued a statement, stating that, “The Cameroon Community Media Network and Partners shall join the rest of the Press Family worldwide to celebrate the 2019 version of the World Press Freedom Day on May 3.

The event which is planned to take place at the Synod Office Hall in Buea, is expected to bring together over 50 Journalists and Associates of the Press.”

To commemorate the day, the CCMN and other journalists’ associations are to hold presentations and roundtable discussions on community media and press freedom, the power of new media and democracy, basics on elections reporting, detecting, and reporting hate speech ahead of elections, amongst other activities.

Participants shall also listen to the speeches of the UN Secretary-General and that of the UNESCO Director.

There shall also be the Official World Press Freedom Day Speech by the Regional President of the Cameroon Community Media Network for the SW, Reverend Geraldine Fobang.

The main celebration of World Press Freedom Day 2019 will take place in Addis Ababa, from May 1 to 3. 

The event will provide a platform for multiple actors to exchange on current issues, threats and achievements concerning freedom of the press.
