In its drive for a cleaner and safer environment in Cameroon, Nestlé Cameroon, in partnership with Namé Recycling, has successfully collected and recycled over 50 tons of plastic waste at the end of the first quarter of 2021.

In a statement, Nestlé Cameroon said, having succeeded in collecting and recycling 100 tons of plastic waste in 2020, it decided to double its objective and expects to collect and recycle 200 tons by the end of 2021, a goal which it is already achieving through the recycling of over 50 tons of plastic waste in the first quarter of 2021.

Nestlé Cameroon revealed that the efforts for a cleaner, safer and friendlier environment are part of its commitment to contribute to the fight against plastic pollution in order to preserve the environment.

Nestlé has made a global commitment to make its packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025, with a focus on the fight against plastic waste pollution. This is part of the global commitment Nestlé made on December 3, 2020 to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2050. The world’s leader in the food and beverage sector says “Packaging helps keep our food safe and fresh, but plastic waste in nature is a global challenge that needs to be addressed urgently”.

In relation to Nestlé’s goal to spearhead the campaign for a cleaner and safer environment, Robert Helou, General Administrator of Nestlé Cameroon, said, “Nestlé Cameroon is fully aware of its responsibility to preserve the environment and must set an example. We have doubled our target this year to accelerate our contribution to protect our planet and make a difference. We will continue to communicate transparently about our progress to encourage others to join us in significantly reducing plastic waste in our environment. “

Beyond its 2025 packaging commitments, Nestlé has engaged a long-term ambition to end the release of plastic into the environment across its operations. This is expected to help prevent any further accumulation of plastic in the natural environment, and achieve plastic neutrality, an ambitious goal set by Nestlé.
