Buea United alias Mountain Boys, in a first warm-up game in preparation for the Southwest Regional Championship, have received a 5-0 defeat from Academicians of Best Stars.
In this first friendly encounter pitting Best Stars Academy against Buea United FC, the academicians gave their counterparts from Buea, a tough time with their conservative system on the ball (tiki-taka). The first half was beautifully animated by both sides, but the visitors went down by two goals in the first segment, in the second half of the game; the boys from Buea tried to reduce the deficit but were shocked by an addition of three more goals without the Mountain Boys scoring. At the end of 90 minutes, it was Best Stars Academy 5-0 Buea United FC.
“This match was just an evaluation game for my new and old players; I used this game to access the players individually and their physicality. So I didn’t put much importance to the scores though it is a bad one. We have been training for just three weeks intensively plus insecurity plaguing the Southwest region and Buea not being an exception, but we hope and pray things get better soonest for us to play good football this coming season.” Enang Severin BU Coach told Atlantic Chronicles after the encounter.
“As compared to last year’s crop of players, a hand full were lazy and I see that majority of the new players are showing their interest in playing for the club especially those who have never been part of the regional championship,” Enang added.
After ending the 2017/2018 season in the quarterfinals of the playoffs in the Southwest Championship, the academicians resumed training in September 2018 and have played a host of friendlies against Elite one clubs losing just one against Feutcheu FC of Bandjoun 3-2, playing a draw with Union Sportive of Douala, and even selections from Tiko and Buea laminating them 4-1 and 5-1 respectively.
Speaking to Atlantic Chronicles after game was the Head Coach of Best Stars Academy Djofack Saturin. When asked how the club has been after some of his players were transferred to other clubs in and out of the country, the Coach said “Best Stars is an academy and we nurture and expose talent, for the players who have gone to other clubs, we miss them no doubt, but we have integrated younger players from the junior categories into senior selection of the team and they are doing their best.
For Buea United FC my opponents of the day, they are a good side with a good coach, in football one side takes the victory while the other is the vanquish. My foot soldiers simply took advantage of all the tactical and technical errors committed by our opponents. Best Star’s Djofack added.
