On Saturday, the Intermediate Lions of Cameroon will take on Zimbabwe in the opening match of the 2021 African Nations Championship dubbed CHAN.
The match to be staged at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium is expected bring together the continent’s football house as well other stakeholders in and out of the continent.
While current cup holders, Morocco, are bracing up to defend the title, all eyes will be tilted to host country Cameroon who has left no stone unturned in preparing for the competition.
Their entry into the first game of the competition is decisive given that the outcome will surely determine how far they will go in the competition.
Truth be told, the Cameroon team looks forward in producing the best quality of football, perhaps, football made in Cameroon.
Although the team’s recent appearances do not look healthy to many sports lovers, every coach’s ambition is always to be at the top in every competition.
However, to do this, there is need for the technical bench as well as players to understand the need of wearing the national colours. Some who are wearing the colours as a step towards greener pastures should have a rethink of their participation.
Once in each game, they should play as if it were their last game on earth. They have to understand that the country is passing through turmoil now and their excellent output will help to quench down the tension.
The momentum should be raised very high even more than what was seen during the pre-mini CHAN tournament. They have to bear in mind that Cameroon is a great nation when it comes to football therefore they have to put aside their individual interest and wear the national colours proudly.
As it is said, patriotism should be exercised by loving or working for the country to grow and not for an individual. The team should look beyond playing the competition but think of the joy that awaits them when excellent results are produced.
So much water has gone under the bridge and there is need for an excellent job to be done. This can only be done if the fighting spirit can be fully engaged.
