One week after alleged separatists beheaded Comfort Sirri Tumasang, the Director of Cabinet at the Prime Minister’s Office, Confiance Ebune, braved the security odds to Muyuka, Fako Division, Southwest Region, where he assured the victim’s family of Government support.

Confiance Ebune, accompanied by Southwest Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai and Fako SDO Emmanuel Engamba Le Doux, were received in Muyuka by late Comfort’s mother, Tuesday, August 18.

Addressing the deceased family, the Prime Minister’s envoy, Confiance Ebune said: “The Prime Minister dispatched me to come and pay his condolence to the family after the gruesome murder of this 32-year-old Comfort Tumasang. He was touched, not only as Head of Government, but as a father after seeing the images of the brutal killing.

“I came with a message of condolence and also an encouragement to the administrative authorities and the forces of law and order, who are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the security of this place,” he said.

He said the population should denounce inhumane acts and other separatist fighters’ attacks on civilians.

“We call on our population to be more vigilant and denounce those culprits who want to rain fear in the community for disorder to reign.”

On her part, the victim’s mother told the Government officials that separatists have threatened to raze her house for burying her beheaded daughter in the compound.

The woman said she is in a fix and don’t know what to do. She insisted that her 32-year-old daughter was killed by separatist fighters who claimed she was a blackleg.

Comfort was buried on August 15 at her family compound at Makanga quarter in Muyuka, but her mother said she has evacuated her other children because of separatist threats.

The killing of Comfort Tumasang drew wide condemnation from Government, Civil society and international organisations.

She is amongst the scores of civilians killed by both separatists and military officers in the four-year-long conflict in the Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon.
