Patcha Foundation Organises Annual Walk To Raise Cancer Awareness

(Douala Cameroon) The Michael & Mauritia Patcha Foundation (MMPF), on October 19, organised a five-kilometre annual walk, at Poste de Bonanjo, in Douala, to commemorate the breast cancer month, and raise awareness about cancer.

This was organised under the supervision of the Country Director, Mme Jacky Patcha, who oversaw the colorful and memorial walk, aimed at fighting the deadly disease through better lifestyles and habits.

The annual exercise of thePatcha Foundation was organised this year under the theme, ‘FIGHT4ZEROCANCER.’

This year’s CASEC annual walk brought together medical and non-medical practitioners and cancer survivors from diverse locations for awareness. Talks were given to participants on how to best live to avoid the disease. Thus, topics and activities centred on health, healthy lifestyles talks on cancer, a five-KM walk, ZUMBA, balloon release to honour those who have died of cancer, gifts to participants and lots more.  Participants at the event also received advice on sound health and nutrition. They also benefited from basic health-checks prior to the event. There were health checks for diabetes and hypertension, by the Cameroon Red Cross first aiders and nurses.

The 2019 CASEC Walk was attended by over 150 participants who braved the odds of heavy rainfall that prevented over 100 hundred other participants from participating.

Under the command of Coach Madengue, participants engaged in a 15-Minutes stretch and warm-up which kick-started the 4.7 KM walk from Poste Bonajo through Akwa, Bali and back to Bonanjo.Two dynamic youths from team Coach Madengue, moved the crowd with engaging Zumba dance throughout the event.

One of the highlights of the event was the I LOVE MYSELF PLEDGE,an exercise aimed at engaging each participant to taking health pledges to better their lives. These pledges were distributed to participants who are expected to keep the pledges and report, if respected in the next walk.

Talks and demonstrations on breast, cervical, prostate cancer and healthy lifestyle choices were given by Dr Xavier Tchentchnya and Dr Binyet Manfred.

MMPF partners and representatives from the EXSSA Douala, APLASS, ENRIMA Gifts and Baskets, Mash Fire Nation, Guinness Ladies, Fabafrique, Spectra beauty, Esthetica beauty Cabinet Fucus and some individuals who supported the cause, were recognised for their efforts in the fight against cancer.

Balloon releases, an exercise done to stand with those suffering, rejoice with the survivors and honour the deceased, was exceptionally engaged on by participants who wrote on respective balloons, names of friends and family who are suffering or have died of cancer, and  released them into the sky.  AWU Sing Song, an Artist and the Global Ambassador for Patcha Foundation animated the event. The walk ended with a joyful Zumba dance and a word of thanks from the Patcha Foundation to all participants, Partners, Sponsors and well-wishers.
