(Buea-Cameroon) A Prof Narcisse Kombi Mouelle led team has carried out an inspection on infrastructure (stadia, roads, hotels) constructed to host Africa’s most prestigious soccer events in 2021 (AFCON) and second placed 11 year old CHAN in April of 2020.

This inspection followed that of a CAF inspection team to Cameroon. The Confederation of African Football handed the baton to Cameroon, to organise these soccer Jamborees. It is for this reason, that Prof Narcisse Kombi Mouelle, Minister of Sports and Physical Education in Cameroon and FECAFOOT president, Prince Seidou Mbombo Njoya visited the towns of Buea and Limbe to see how prepared these cities are before the “D” day.

Speaking to the media after the tour, Prof Narcisse remarked, “I am globally satisfied. As we already know, Buea and Limbe hosted the AWCON successfully in 2016, all the sports infrastructure, hotels, and other commodities are operational. We are here to ensure that all actors, stakeholders and parties involved, mobilise to see that come April, we have a wonderful hosting of the CHAN and AFCON in 2021.” He said.

A businessman and football lover expressing his thoughts after the Minister’s visit observed and remarked that “The preparations are slow. The government needs to be quick in executing the various contracts. We must not wait for CAF to announce a visit before we start work on the various sites. These two tournaments are very important to the economy of this country and I pray it is a success”.

It is hoped that the loopholes discovered during the inspection will be worked on, before the CHAN in April and readjustments made before the main event in January and February 2021.
