Cameroonian international and Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has been shortlisted for the inaugural France Football Yachine Trophy, a distinction for the Best goalkeeper in the world.

Yachine Trophy named after former legendary Soviet Union star, Lev Yashin, the only goalkeeper to have won the Ballon d’Or back in 1963, gives recognition to the year’s Best Goalkeeper.

France football released a list of 10 goalkeepers nominated for the first edition of the Yachine Trophy for the World Best goalkeeper. Amongst the goalkeepers is 23-year-old Cameroon’s national and Ajax Amsterdam shot-stopper, Andre Onana.

Others shortlisted are; Manuel Neuer, Ederson, Alison Becker, Wojciech Szcezesny, Jan Oblak, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Samir Handanovic, Hugo Lloris, and Marc-Andre TerStegen.  Aged 23, the Cameroonian is the youngest of all the 10 nominees.

The winner of the trophy, plus other awards from France football, will be unveiled in a ceremony due to take place on December 2, in Paris-France.

Meanwhile, a 30-man shortlist for this year’s Ballon d’Or award has been released. It is dominated by highly rated UEFA Champions League winners with the English Premier League players dominating the 30-man shortlisted players for the grand award. Representing Africa are Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Riyad Mahrez, Kalidou Koulibaly and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. With so much criticism after the snub of African stars during the FIFA award, many football fans will be hoping to see that African stars shine at the Ballon d’Or award.

Notably absent is Brazil and PSG star, Neymar Jnr.
