Barely 13 days under new PWD Head Coach, Augustine Choupo, the Abakwa boys have witnessed great improvement in the League, grabbing six points in two match days of the ongoing professional League One Championship in Cameroon, despite his kidnap.
Few days after defeating Union Sportive Douala alias Les Nassara Kamaiikia 2-0 in Bamenda, the gaffer, Augustine Choupo was kidnapped in the early hours Friday, April 5, 2019, by unidentified men in Bamenda during a training session with his foot soldiers.
This incident occurred before the watchful eyes of fans that were there to watch their darling club fine-tune strategies to dismantle a resilient New Star. Fortunately for the PWD tactician, hours after his disappearance, he was released without any injuries.
Sunday, April 7, 2019, Augustine Choupo and his Abakwa boys welcomed New Stars, another team from the economic capital of Cameroon in a day 13 fixture of the League One championship.
It should be noted that Augustine Choupo is the second coach to have been kidnapped in Bamenda and released. Ndoumbe Bosso, former Head Coach of Yong Sport Academy (YOSA), was the first to face kidnappers, but was released and he decided to move to Champions of Cameroon, Coton Sport Garoua. In a similar story, 20 University of Buea Football boys were kidnapped and later released, making it a sum of three kidnaps that have affected the football sector in the Northwest and Southwest of Cameroon, in a month.
