Union Mouvement Sportif of Loum, one of Cameroon’s representative at the African Champions League has failed to progress to the quarter-final after losing on a 2-1 aggregate to Lobi Stars of Nigeria.
In the first leg of CAF Champions League preliminary rounds played in Cameroon on November 28, the boys from the Loum humbled Lobi Stars from Nigeria by slim 1-0 victory with a second-half goal in the 66th minute from midfield boss Jean Nicolas Abanda pushing the tie to be decisive in Nigeria.
The second and return leg match which was to take place at Markurdi was moved to the Rangers International FC Home ground at the cathedral, Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu. This was to meet up with the CAF stipulated distance of 200km for any team to travel.
26 minutes into the encounter, Nigerian side took control of the game, bringing the aggregate to 1 goal apiece. Ten minutes into the second half, Lobi Stars took control of the game squandering countless scoring opportunities. With this pressure mounted on UMS Loum, a second goal was at the door for the Nigerian club. By the 90th minute, the end score was 2 for Lobi stars and 0 for Union Mouvement Sportif of Loum.
With an aggregate score of 2 for Lobi Stars of Nigeria and 1 for UMS Loum, the Cameroonian side was eliminated from the African Champions League. This leaves just two clubs, Coton Sport of Garoua, and New Stars Fc from Cameroon sailing to the next stage of the competition.
