The Super Falcons of Nigeria have continued their domination over the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, as the ladies from Cameroon were humbled after post match Penalties in the ongoing African Women’s football tourney.
Winning two, and a tie in the last encounter against the Black Queens of Ghana gave the Lionesses the top position of their group, this was an achievement but the sad news was, Coach JB and his girls had to face their arch rival, seven times AWCON champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
Coach Ndocko and assistant Bernadette Anong saw the encounter as an opportunity for Captain Mani and her team mates to get their pound of flesh after losing the last two editions in the finals to the ladies from Nigeria.
In a semi-final termed “final” to sport lovers, it was tight with the players giving little or no opportunities for the other to dominate the game. Both teams kept each other on the front foot for 90 minutes and it ended in a 0-0 tie, forcing the game to extra 30 minutes and by the end of the game, it was still on a virgin tie.
Tensions at this moment were high as it was now left for the shot stoppers to decide the fate of their teams. Tochuku Oluechi prevented 2014’s best player of the tournament Cameroonian born Gaelle Deborah Enganamouit from converting her penalty, while Genevieve Ngo Mbeleck’s shot hit the post. Annette Ngo Ndom winner of the best Goalkeeper for the last two editions of the AWCON, made the right decisions of diving at the right directions to all four penalties, but made no stop for her country.
With this 10th loss to the Super Falcons, Captain Mani and her team mates will have to reorganise and fight for the third place against Mali who lost the second semi-final match against the Bayana Bayanas of South Africa, so as to qualify and gain a spot in the most prestigious women’s football jamboree, The FIFA Women’s World Cup next year.
